In response to the passage of the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 – Section 204, Public Law 108-265, the Minneapolis Public Schools Board passed Wellness Policy 6690, which sets new standards for increasing students' physical activity and nutrition intake.

The Principals' Wellness Policy Implementation Manual and Champions Toolkit were developed to help schools implmement Wellness Policy 6690 to improve the health and academic success of children across the district.
